Kingston Transit to release real-time travel data
June 7, 2017 -
Starting Monday, June 12, Kingston Transit passengers will receive real-time arrival and departure information for all Kingston Transit routes using their computer, smartphone, tablet or with their preferred transit app.
"We have made our real-time transit data available in an open data format. Real-time data takes the guess work out of knowing if your bus is just around the corner or if it's been delayed," says Jeremy DaCosta, general manager, Kingston Transit. "Until now, passengers didn't have a convenient way of knowing where their bus is. This changes all of that. It's fantastic!"
To access real-time arrival information, riders can use Google Maps on their computer, smartphone or tablet. Real-time information is also available by using other free transit apps found in the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
DaCosta notes the data can be used by any transit apps and suggests that riders contact Kingston Transit if their preferred app isn't using it so they can reach out to the app developer to make the data available.
"Giving our riders access to real-time travel information has been a priority for us in 2017 and will make riding Kingston Transit even easier," says DaCosta.
