Next steps: Proposed Residential Rental Licensing Program

A proposed program to license residences with one to three rental units would require these rental properties to meet standards to ensure the health and safety of renters.

The City of Kingston has considered adopting a residential rental licensing program multiple times over the past 15 years. Staff has been receiving input and working on a proposed program over the past several months.

The proposed Residential Rental Licensing Program was presented to the administrative policies committee on Aug. 9 for input from the committee and residents. Our team listened and recorded a number of comments – many of which were new and others reflected comments received through earlier consultations. Based on this input, staff felt it was necessary to move the date the proposed program is presented to the administrative policies committee to Nov. 8. This change will allow staff time to ensure input is captured in the proposed Residential Rental Licensing Program being presented.

Once the report is received and considered at administrative policies committee, it will then be brought forward to a future council meeting.

Thank you to everyone that has provided ideas and input around the proposed Residential Rental Licensing Program.
