In 2015, City council endorsed a long-term neighbourhood renewal plan for the central area of the Rideau Heights neighbourhood, including improvements to Shannon Park.

Beginning in fall 2019, Shannon Park will be renovated to include:

  • the extension of McCauley Street to Wilson Street
  • a multi-purpose sports court
  • refurbished sports fields
  • a playground
  • pathways
  • seating
  • open lawn areas

During construction, efforts will be made to keep access to the splash pad and skate park open in the summer season.

The completion of the Rideau Heights Community Centre and Library the upcoming renewal of Shannon Park represents the early stages of the Rideau Heights Regeneration Project, a 20-year+ plan outlining the long-term vision for the area's social housing and parkland properties.

  • Budget and financing – The costs associated with the Shannon Park redevelopment plan, including the enhancement proposed by the Regeneration project team, have been budgeted for and approved by Council.
  • Construction timeframe: Fall 2019 – Fall 2020
