Booking Information

Please review the following before submitting your booking request.

  • Only events held within the boundaries of the City of Kingston are eligible to book OSKAR
  • Events must be open to the community, with either free or paid admission. No private events.
  • OSKAR is booked on a first come, first served basis (excluding City of Kingston run events)
  • OSKAR can be modified to meet the needs of your event, need lots of room for plastic water bottles? Looking to only divert organics and paper waste? Various options can be accommodated.
  • OSKAR cannot be used to collect garbage. Solid Waste Services Staff will confirm recycling/organics streams at booking.
  • There is a fee of $62.75 per drop off/pick-up to cover the cost of delivering and emptying OSKAR. For many events, only one delivery/emptying will be required. Solid waste services staff will review your needs at booking. Penalties may apply for contaminated materials. To avoid contamination fees, we suggest that a volunteer or representative from the event be present to help users recycle and compost correctly. We can also discuss opportunities with having a solid waste staff member at your event.
  • A site map is required for delivery of OSKAR, and needs to be received a minimum of one week before your event or you risk cancellation of your booking.
  • All OSKAR's materials are returned to the Kingston Area Recycling Centre (KARC) for sorting. Heavily contaminated loads require extra time to sort to ensure that the materials can be recycled or composted and , in some instances, additional fees will be applied.  In cases when materials are too heavily contaminated, it may be necessary for the City to landfill the items, which also comes with a high cost.  We do everything we can to clean them up for recycling or composting!  Landfilling is – and always should be – the last resort.
