Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventories

The City has created inventories of greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted by the entire community and by municipal operations for several reporting years.

With the adoption of the Climate Leadership Plan (2021), the City is committed to completing and assisting in initiatives that reduce both our corporate and community carbon footprint, with a corporate goal of a 30 per cent reduction of GHG emissions by 2030 and Carbon Neutrality by 2040, as well as the aspirational goal of carbon neutrality for community emissions by 2040.

From Kingston’s Strategic Plan 2019 - 2022, the City committed to the target of reducing GHG emissions by 15 per cent across the City's operations by 2022. This included a commitment to report annually on corporate emissions to show annual progress towards meeting this target, as well as annual reporting for community GHG emissions, with each report being published for the previous year due to data availability.

As emissions factors are updated, and with a commitment to continuous improvement, emissions inventories may be recalculated and restated for the greatest accuracy.

See all emissions inventories available from 2018 to 2021 in the Related Documents, with reports for 2022 expected to be published before the end of 2023.
