About the Project

The City is leading an economic development initiative, “Health Innovation Kingston” (HI YGK), to grow Kingston’s health and healthcare sector. Home to two universities, a college and a tertiary care hospital, Kingston is rapidly developing a data-driven knowledge economy. Our health sector is rich in talent and resources, including health data-focused organizations – Kingston is often referred to as a “living lab” where innovative ideas can be developed and tested in the same environment.

The HI YGK project is a collaboration with seven local partners, all of whom are working together to help new companies grow in Kingston by ensuring that existing health sector companies thrive and by attracting new companies, big and small, to Kingston from elsewhere in Canada and around the world. HI YGK partners leverage technology and expertise to support attraction, retention and growth for companies operating in the health sector.

The HI YGK team consists of:

  • Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC)
  • St. Lawrence College (SLC)
  • Kingston Economic Development
  • Queen’s Centre for Advanced Computing (CAC)
  • Queen’s Partnerships and Innovation (QPI)
  • Dunin-Deshpande Queen’s Innovation Centre (DDQIC)
  • Queen’s Ingenuity Labs
  • City of Kingston

HI YGK Showcase

Healthcare leaders, business owners, funders, supporters and community members came together in Memorial Hall for the Health Innovation Kingston (HI YGK) Showcase.

Participants had the chance to network and learn more about the work of the many companies involved with HI YGK, an economic development initiative that aims to grow and develop health-focused startups in Kingston.

A huge thanks to our HI YGK partners including Kingston Health Sciences Centre , Queen’s Partnerships & Innovation, St. Lawrence College, Centre for Advanced Computing, Dunin-Deshpande Queen's Innovation Centre, Invest Kingston and Ingenuity Labs, and to all those who attended the event and who have supported these projects.

The incredible work wouldn't be possible without the generous funding from FedDev Ontario. Thank you for helping Kingston lead the way in health innovation.
