The City has now completed work to redevelop the J.K. Tett Centre at 370 King Street West, which is now home to the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning. This unique project evolved over many years and with the help of numerous stakeholders and provides Kingston with a cultural facility unlike any other.  While the building itself was redeveloped by the City of Kingston, it is being operated by a separate not-for-profit board with a mandate to bring together artists, students and the community to explore and enjoy the arts in all their diversity.

View the Tett Centre Website for more information on parking in the area as well as the history of the project and the Tett's buildings and grounds.

Creating an Arts Cluster

The Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning forms part of a "arts cluster"  — a unique destination that brings together artists, students and the community in ways that are accessible to Kingston residents and appealing to visitors coming to the city. It has been developed in collaboration with Queen's University which built the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts that  include a recital hall and theatre, rehearsal space, a screening facility and classrooms.  The arts cluster is about creativity and learning and, together, the "Tett" and the "Isabel" offer an exceptional range of creative activities designed to appeal to people of all ages, interests and artistic abilities. Participation is key with both facilities providing people opportunities to engage in creative activities in ways that are meaningful to them.

Construction Update

The contractor working on this project will not be able to meet the original construction schedule and has provided a revised schedule that allows occupancy at the J.K. Tett Centre later in the fall. Numerous issues have led to this revised construction schedule, including geotechnical, structural and environmental challenges. The J.K. Tett Centre is a heritage property and has required extensive work most recently hampered by this year's extremely wet weather.
