Kingston Moves
About the Project
The 2019 Kingston Household Travel Survey is a confidential and voluntary survey that tells us how, why and where residents travel. The survey results provide a new baseline that will inform future transportation planning in Kingston.
Anonymized data sets are available on the City’s Open Data Portal
Highlights
- The 2019 survey is the first of its kind since 2008
- It captured a representative sample from across Kingston. More than five per cent of the city’s population completed the survey.
- The results are grouped into 15 “Neighbourhood Areas”, each falling into one of four sub-areas (Central, East, West, Rural)
- The results represent 398,600 daily trips
- City-wide, 66 per cent of trips are taken by auto (either as a driver or passenger), 18 per cent are walking trips, eight per cent are taken by transit, and 3.7 per cent by bicycle.
- Residents of Kingston travel almost 1.9 million kilometres in the local area each day. That’s 47 times around the globe in one day!
