Engagement Opportunities

The intent of this project is to generate ideas and foster community connections as the Smart Kingston project progresses. Staff will continue to build on the Symposium’s success through Smart Kingston working groups. Residents are welcome to attend one of four information sessions:

• Kingston Frontenac Public Library, Central Branch, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 12.
• Online seminar, 2-3 p.m. on Feb. 24.
• Gore Road Fire Hall, 211 Gore Rd, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on March 25.
• INVISTA Centre, Hall A, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on April 29.

October 2019 - The Smart Kingston Symposium - Complete

On Oct. 4, 2019, staff brought 125 community innovators, consisting of residents, local business owners and institutional representation from across the Kingston area together to identify local challenges and brainstorm innovative solutions. The results have been captured in the Smart Kingston Symposium Summary.

Summer 2019 - Broadband Analytics Survey - Complete

In summer 2019, the City, in partnership with Utilities Kingston, Queen's University and Limestone analytics is administered a survey on broadband internet access.

The goal of this project is to support funding applications for broadband infrastructure to improve Internet service, coverage, performance and rates.

2018 - Smart Cities Challenge Survey - Complete

 As part of its 2018 Smart Cities Challenge application, the City conducted a survey to ask residents about their visions for how innovation, data and connected technology could improve their lives.

Responses to that survey have helped develop the Smart City project to where it is today.

These responses have:

• Informed the Smart Cities Challenge application submitted to the Government of Canada's Smart Cities Challenge on April 24, 2018.
• Shaped the vision for initiatives, including how the community will take advantage of emerging technologies and innovations to improve the lives of Kingstonians.
• Helped determine the use of the "Virtuous Cycle" model.
