Princess Street is Kingston's street.  It's where we go to shop, meet, dine and enjoy our vibrant, lively, healthy and historic downtown. We are built around it. Princess Street is our spine. And we're taking good care of it.

In 2010, the City began remaking history on Princess Street by reconstructing it between Lake Ontario and King Street East. The rebuilding continued in 2013-14 between King Street East and Bagot Street and again in 2016 from Bagot to Clergy. This project is part of the City's Downtown Action Plan.

Updating the above and below-ground infrastructure from building-face to building-face allows the City to build the capacity of its infrastructure to allow for future growth and augment the beauty of this historic street.

2018: Princess Street has been rebuilt from Clergy to Division

Work to completely rebuild Princess Street from Clergy to Division ended with the reopening of Princess to through traffic on July 1, 2018. Crews continue to complete finishing touches along Princess, including adding street furniture and bike racks.

This project continues on the side-streets and includes the rebuilding of:

• Barrie Street from Princess to Queen
• Division Street from Brock to Colborne

The City is working closely with business owners to minimize disruption.

2018 project facts

• Sanitary pipe – 800 metres
• Storm pipe – 800 metres
• Watermain – 1,000 metres
• Asphalt – 9,200 metres
• Concrete sidewalks – 3,500 sq metres
• Granite curbs – 700 metres
