Camping

In March 2020, Council endorsed the recommendation from staff to implement a two-year camping pilot project at Lake Ontario Park for the booking of individual campsites for cyclists and other visitors arriving by modes of active transportation.

As of the end of the season in October 2022, the two-year camping pilot project has come to an end after fulfilling the two-year pilot seasons in 2021 and 2022, which were delayed by one year due to the pandemic.

The intent of this pilot program was to not only attract cyclists as part of cycling events, but also leisure cyclists and other campers arriving by alternative modes of active transportation. Staff will work on finalizing research in order to report back to Council on the next steps.

With the completion of the pilot project, camping is no longer permitted at Lake Ontario Park outside of special event activities.
