Project Engagement
Engaging the broader community is vital to the success of the Third Crossing. Below is an overview of our communication and engagement on the project through many different channels such as near-neighbour meetings, news releases, e-newsletter and other methods.
Aug 2022
- Aug 8: Launched engagement for west shore site restoration and landscaping work. The scheduled work includes planting new trees, building new and enhanced accessible connections to promote active transportation and healthy living, re-vegetating impacted areas, and restoring shoreline. Nov 2021
- Nov 3: Launched engagement for west shore roadwork final design. They include new and improved active transportation elements for all ages and abilities, including cyclists, pedestrians and multi-modal users. - Nov 11: Released a new drone video highlighting 70 per cent of the bridge complete as well as the completion of the substructure.
- Nov 12: Issued an community e-newsletter about naming campaign engagement, west shore engagement and a new video
Oct 2021
- Oct 25: Launched engagement for the shortlist of names for the Third Crossing. Residents have until Nov. 29, 2021 to submit feedback. To learn more visit the City's Get Involved Kingston page.
Sept 2021

- Sept 27: Issused a new drone video for August
- Sept 29: Issued an e-newsletter with a new drone video, local project benefits, east shore landscaping and site restoration final designs, construction photos and upcoming construction activity for 2021
Aug 2021
- Aug 13: Release of latest drone video highlighting progress through July and August
- Aug 17: Launch of east shore landscaping and site restoration engagement. View the final designs for the east shore and ask questions of the project team until Sept. 7 at 4 pm.
- Aug 18: Issue an e-newsletter about launch of east shore engagement for landscaping and site restoration, new drone video, construction progress, partnership with Queens Ingenuity Lab

- Mar 3: Members of the project team presented the Third Crossing project to the Geotechnical Engineering Masters Students at RMC and Queens University giving a general overview of the project, design process, major design changes and a technical review of the causeway design. - Mar 12: Notification to boaters of upcoming work in navigation channel. See the notification.
- Mar 16: Posted Point St. Mark Dr and Gore Road engagement summary on our website
- Mar 16: Presentation to Sir John A Macdonald Grade 1, 2, 3 classes. View the presentation
- Mar 16: Issued an e-newsletter about Point. St. Mark Drive and Gore Road intersection engagement summary, bat houses, launch of Third Crossing naming campaign, new drone video and updates on heritage stone wall on the east shore.
- Mar 18: New drone video posted for the project. Installation of the concrete girders is going up quickly. 20 of the 95 150 ft concrete girders have been installed in the last month. The girders are being placed on top of piers. In total 10 of the 19 piers have been finished. This latest video shows the latest progress on the bridge.
- Mar 22: Naming campaign call for Indigenous Nations and local Indigenous resident involvement.
- Mar 23: Presented our first 2021 Third Crossing quarterly update report to Council.
- Mar 23: Hosted Kingston Emergency Service Providers to tour the site.
- Mar 29: Virtual school presentation to LaSalle High School to about 100 students. View the presentation.
February 2021
- Feb 2: Launch of Point St. Mark Dr and Gore Road intersection engagement on the City's Engagement Platform through an online Q&A. Engagement continues until Feb. 23 Issued a news release about the launch of engagement.
- Feb 3: Release of a new drone video.
- Feb 4: IPD partners Kiewit and Bauer Foundations won an award for their ‘transportation infrastructure innovation techniques and methods’ for the Third Crossing.
- Feb 9: Issued an e-newsletter about the current Point St. Mark Drive and Gore Road intersection engagement, main span arrival, a new drone video and the arrival of the girders.
- Feb 9: Issued a community e-newsletter about the launch of the Point St. Mark Dr. and Gore Road intersection engagement, arrival of main span girders and a new drone video.
- Feb 10: Presentation to a Grade 5 class in Kingston (virtual).
- Feb 12: Notification about part of the east shore heritage stone wall will be temporarily dismantled and replaced by the end of 2022.
- Feb 22: Launch of naming campaign for the Third Crossing. Issued a news release and a new webpage.
- Feb 23: Point St. Mark Dr. and Gore Road engagement ends.
- Feb 24: Virtual presentation to two Grade 1/ 2/ 3 classes at Rideau Public School in Kingston. Presented to about 75 students about the structure and geography of the project.
January 2021
- Jan 12: Released information about the project continuing until a State of Emergency
- Jan 17: Issued the 2020 Communications and Engagement Summary
- Jan 25: Issued an e-newsletter about our COVID-19 protocols, upcoming major construction activity, information about pier and pier caps and our 2020 communications and engagement highlights.
- Jan 29: Notification about the arrival of piers on the west shore and possible traffic disruptions. Part of the City's Traffic Report, issued a west shore listserv and notified Riverpark Board.
December 2020

- Feb 5: St. Lawrence College placement student started for a six-week internship with the Third Crossing project team
- Feb 12: Contractor for construction, Kiewit, attended the annual Kingston Construction Association breakfast as an opportunity to connect with local companies and hear about upcoming construction projects
- Feb 18: Released a new drone video highlighting work accomplished on both shores of the project, including building a temporary rock causeway and wildlife passages. View the video
- Feb 24: Dan Franco from the project team presented at the International Right of Way Association conference about the project, the delivery model, construction methods and design.
