Summer 2017

The draft vision and maps of proposed walking and cycling networks were available on the website for comment. Feedback on these components of the plan including the draft vision, promotional elements and draft walking and cycling networks were considered in the development of the draft Walk 'n' Roll Plan.

June 7, 2017: Open house #2 - Draft Vision

Kingston will be a city that embraces active modes of transportation and where residents and visitors can walk, cycle and wheel using a network of accessible, safe, connected and well-maintained trails, bicycle lanes, sidewalks and walkways which will lead to 20% of all travel occurring via active modes of transportation. The vision will be realized through six key principles.

  • Present alternative solutions and strategies and how these are being evaluated
  • Present draft Active Transportation Network and proposed facility types
  • Seek input on phasing, implementation, specific recommendations and strategies
  • Provide input on the draft vision and policies for promoting active transportation
  • Provide input on the proposed draft network of sidewalks, bicycle facilities, walkways and trails
  • Provide input on phasing, implementation, specific recommendations and strategies

Information looked at included:

  • How the Walk 'n' Roll Kingston plan is being developed.
  • Future visioning ideas on what is possible in Kingston through visual examples from across North America and Europe.
  • Existing network of bike lanes, sidewalks, trails and pathway systems.
  • Ways to improve accessibility and use of mobility devices.
  • Corridors with a high existing or potential demand for walking and cycling.
  • Ideas, programs and facilities that could increase active transportation modal share.
